Job Description
Accounting clerks classify, compute, and record numerical data to accurately complete financial records and conduct routine calculations to verify data figures. These professionals work with programmed computers and use accounting software to store, record, and analyze data and information.

Accounting clerks perform administrative financial tasks such as entering transactions into accounting software, sending invoices to customers, and administering employee payroll. Clerks are typically the lowest level of accounting help that you can find, and they work under the supervision of professional accountants.

Accounting Clerks work in an organization’s financial department to complete the necessary clerical work for accurate accounting practices. They perform general office tasks like organizing and delivering documents, filing reports, updating records and communicating with clients with a focus on financial duties.

Accounting Clerk include keeping financial records updated, preparing reports and reconciling bank statements. You will also run accounting software programs (e.g. SAP) to process business transactions, like accounts payable and receivable, disbursements, expense vouchers and receipts. A successful accounting assistant should be familiar with all accounting procedures and have a flair for numbers.
Accounting Clerk Responsibilities

Provide accounting and clerical support to the accounting department.
Type accurately, prepare and maintain accounting documents and records.
Prepare bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements.
Reconcile accounts in a timely manner.
Daily enter key data of financial transactions in database.
Provide assistance and support to company personnel.
Research, track and restore accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
Inform management and compile reports/summaries on activity areas.
Function in accordance with established standards, procedures and applicable laws.
Constantly update job knowledge.

Accounting Clerk Requirements

Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures.
Competency in MS Office, databases and accounting software.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Aptitude for numbers.
Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks.
Data entry and word processing skills.
Well organized.
Associate’s degree or relevant certification is a plus.

Accounting Clerk Skills

Have fast, accurate data entry skills.
Speak, read and write English.
Understand basic accounting procedures.
Use word processing, spreadsheet, database and email software.
Use accounting software such as QuickBooks, MYOB, ACCPAC, and/or Simply Accounting.
Have good customer service skills.
